Baby Wipe Packaging Line

There were several process requirements in this application. The process began with empty boxes being conveyed with VFD’s and InterRoll DC motors into a robotic staging area. At the same time from a perpendicular system, the baby wipes were being conveyed with motors controlled by VFD’s. The wipes were conveyed into a servo controlled staging area to organize the wipes into an arrangement where a robot could pick up the wipes. A robot would then pick up the wipes and place them into the staged empty boxes. There were several very time sensitive motion controlled elements in the process. The process included interlocking pneumatic cylinders, servo motion, and robotic controls to reliably pick and place baby wipe packages into empty boxes. There were two identical lines that would converge the baby wipe filled sealed boxes into a palatizing line. The boxes were then conveyed to a staging area where groups of sealed boxes were robotically palletized on an empty pallet. There were several configurations of box and wipe package styles which required an implementation of a database for process variables. Due to the complexity in motion, robotic, and pneumatic control, there were several process variables that were custom for each configuration. A user-friendly configuration selection tool was created for easy configuration change. Once implementation was complete, the process was robust with a very low failure rate percentage.
